Feature Friday: Rachel Kerr
This Friday I am featuring local mama, Rachel Kerr. Rachel is a wife and mom of two, and a Georgia native, who's been won over by Lancaster's charms. She gets excited by psychology, landscapes, hippie health, and great thrift finds. She'll soon be publishing her first book, and you can find her blog here. Rachel and I met while our kids were running around Barnes & Noble, and we immediately got to talking about capsule wardrobes. So yeah, I think she's a pretty cool chick. Check out what she had to say about parenting, and being a modern mama.
What is your greatest challenge as a parent? Do you want honest? I’d say my greatest challenge as a parent is facing my own anger. Ugly stuff comes out when you’re parenting toddlers. Sometimes I realize my three year old and I are throwing similar tantrums. It’s humbling to see your weaknesses in your kids. I literally pray for both of our anger issues.
What’s the latest with your kids? There’s a lot of personality in this family right now. Steel recently turned three and is such a funny mixture of a baby and a little man. He’s smart and social...he’s quite an entertainer. Starlett will be one this month. Lately her climbing skills are amazing! The two of them are starting to make each other laugh more. They have a really sweet bond!
What is your dream day as a family? Camping and the beach, with lots of family around to help with the kids (we do this every year...it turns out camping with kids can actually be leisurely with enough support around you!).
Kid item you can’t live without? My Boba wrap! Nothing else works like it. I keep it on most of the day when I have a new baby. Who doesn’t like having two hands free?
Favorite local kids activity? We’re pretty big fans of Hershey’s Chocolate World. And in the fall, we can’t miss the Manheim Farm Show.
How do you unwind? With crime drama. I just love it. But some of it is so gritty, I can only watch with my husband beside me on the couch to make me feel safe!
What are your favorite beauty products? I like a little bit of makeup, but often I don’t get around to putting it on. Honestly, if I can just take a 1 ½” curling iron and a can of dry shampoo and make sure it’s a good hair day, most days that’s good enough for me. You know how it is when someone’s crying at your feet - you have to prioritize!
